Balance

Exploring the struggle of perimenopausal women and the growing movement for women’s health

Balance

About Balance: In this critically important docuseries, filmmakers and Jain monks Sadvhi Siddahli Shree and Sadvhi Anubhuti reveal the frustrations of generations of women who have suffered from perimenopausal and menopausal symptoms that western medicine has marginalized or ignored.  Through the lenses of their own experience and interviews with experts in the field who are seeking new solutions, their goal is to empower women around the world with information and agency concerning their hormonal health.

What They Do:  In addition to serving visitors to the Siddhayatan Tirth Spiritual Retreat in their roles as Spiritual Director and Operations Director, Sadvhi Siddhali Shree and Sadvhi Anubhuti are accomplished filmmakers who operate Siddhayatan Tirth Productions, where they harness the power of storytelling to ignite compassion, inspire action, and drive positive change worldwide. Through award-winning documentaries, they raise awareness, alleviate suffering, and advocate for those often overlooked by society. With authenticity and empathy, they bridge divides and cultivate a more just and compassionate world. Their previous films Stopping Traffic: The Movement To End Sex-trafficking and Surviving Sex Trafficking played at film festivals and in theaters around the world.

Partnership with EMA Foundation: EMA Foundation has provided a $25K grant for production and is working alongside the Siddhayatan Tirth team to reach out to prospective funders, design promotional materials, and pre-build an audience for the upcoming docuseries by organizing key viewers across a generational spectrum.

Impact: Every woman on the planet will experience menopause at some point in their lives, and the vast majority will suffer symptoms that have driven many to despair, dissolution of relationships, and worse.  In the words of Dr. Sharon Malone, “When it comes to menopause, we need to have information about how to enter this stage, information that allows us to choose whether or not to have hormones. We need to be able to choose how we want to negotiate this fate, this next phase of our life. And for far too long, we have not had the agency to do so.” Balance is a crucial step in dispelling decades of misinformation and giving women around the world the information they need.
